It was well stocked and a staff member manned the door to hold it open and greet me. The counter staff offered assistance straight away in a friendly welcoming manner…The staff made polite and engaging comments and conversation. They helped with the items and smiled while talking. They were happy to get out the items…The store had a good range of items and a wide range of prices. Staff were knowledgeable about their products and not pushing for a sale.”

8th November 2024 [ by email, from a first-time pawnbroking client at Miltons in St.John’s Centre ] : “I just wanted to write to confirm that I visited the shop yesterday to successfully redeem my watches. I followed your guidance, and cleared everything just before the next interest payment clicked over. Thanks for your help, and making the journey as smooth and seamless as possible, whilst explaining, without drama, the various stages and steps. As you said at the time when I first contacted you, it is a sensible way of temporarily releasing some capital to ease cash-flow. In our case, this was as we approached the closing stages of our new-build’s completion. Having never used this type of facility previously, I was, perhaps understandably, a little apprehensive at the outset, but the experience of your staff ensured that my anxiety was misplaced, as everyone who I have dealt with has displayed the highest level of consumate professionalism throughout each stage, and I would ask you to please extend my thanks to all those who looked after me. The redemption yesterday was handled by Karen, and she looked after me very well, in the privacy of the client room, even supplying me with some discreet bags in which to transport my watches home, and even suggesting that I could take as long as necessary in the private room (to re-acquaint myself with my watches!), before returning to the main shop. Finally, the gentleman by the door was incredibly polite and professional, bidding me a good afternoon as he held the door open for me. Overall, a very pleasant experience, which I have no doubt you encourage, and engender, throughout the staff, so thanks once again. The staff were patient with me as I tried to decide which of the 2 similar rings I wanted. Eventually I chose the slightly more expensive one, that also needed resizing. This was done within the price, and I was able to collect the ring 2 days later. I got a certified diamond and platinum ring from a leading jeweller-David M Robinson-for more than 50% less than it would cost to buy new. I don’t think I’ll ever buy new jewellery again!!!!”

The staff were friendly, very patient and not at all pushy. We deliberated over a couple of days and they were happy to set the items aside in their safe until we had decided one way or the other. Special thanks to Becky and her male colleague in particular (apologies, can’t remember his name) who were just great. Once we had decided to proceed to purchase Miltons took care of the required re-sizings very quickly and at no extra cost. The complementary bottle of Champagne we were given when we collected our items was the perfect finishing touch! A fantastic experience all round and would have no hesitation in recommending Miltons. As you probably detected from my initial email, I was a little unsure of the process, and must confess to a little trepidation. Your courteous, and comprehensive response, together with a de-mystification of the mechanics quickly dispelled those feelings. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived at the store, and shown straight through to the private room where I met Michael. After introductions etc, Michael started the process, explaining to me how each stage would progress, and, as you predicted, we were concluded within 45 minutes. Even better, by the time my train had exited Wirral-side, and I had phone signal, I saw that the funds were already in my account. I really appreciate the way in which you have guided me, and the exemplary treatment from all the team who I had the pleasure of being professionally looked after by. I am sure that the compliments you receive on their behalf are many, but please add my name to that list, as well as thanking them on my behalf. Finally, it was very kind of you to oversee this for me, particularly given that you are away at the moment, and I do hope that it has not disturbed your well-earned rest too much. 10th July 2024 : Good Morning, I came in the [ Liverpool St.John’s] store about 6 weeks ago after the passing of my mum. I was buying my last gift off her which was quite an emotional time for me. Rachel was the assistant that helped me chose and diamond cluster ring for myself and 2 diamond eternity rings for my daughters. Rachel was patient and so helpful and so nice she made my experience at the store as pleasant as it could be for me at this time. 16th June 2024 [ in the form of a 5-star Trustpilot review ] :“U get the lot – Knowledge, professionalism, efficiency – all delivered with a personal touch. With their strict policy, shopping at Milton Jewellers meant my having to travel from France, to personally collect any item I wish to purchase. But the assistance and support from Milton Jewellers prior to each visit have made every journey enjoyable and worthwhile. The manager at their Liverpool [Church Street] store, Mr Nick Bailey, responds timely and professionally to every email enquiry I make prior to my visits, no matter how trivial or irrelevant. On one occasion, when I was all booked to travel by train from London to Chester to pay for and collect a diamond ring, I was told at the 11th hour, that they could not resize the ring for me. On closer examination, the store discovered that it had already been resized once before. At this stage, I have come to trust Mr Bailey sufficiently, so that Milton Jewellers could easily have sold me a lump of plastic and billed me for a 1 carat diamond ring. 😂 I was very touched by their honesty. Recently I was at their Chester store to pay for and collect another 2 items. When my M&S Credit card was repeatedly declined, there was not the slightest awkwardness from the staff. Only concern and willingness to help. As pubs and fish and chip shops are closing down in every town, let’s hope this enchanting family run business continues to service those of us who want to own some of that bling, but cannot afford to do our everyday shopping at Cartier or Boodles. NB: And if you are lucky enough to get a valuation for your item, it is a well structured forensic document detailing every aspect of your item. Not just 3 lines on an A4 sheet of paper.”

31st March 2024 : “Hi Mr Laycock. So sorry, I thought I’d sent a reply sooner to say thank-you for your help via email and reserving the bracelet for us to view. We also wanted to mention how pleased my daughter Xxxxxxxx & I were with the exceptional service from Pauline who kindly assisted with the purchase of the men’s curb bracelet for my husband’s 50th birthday. Pauline was able to answer all the questions relating to returning the item and, about insurance valuation service; she was knowledgable and professional and her lovely manner put us at ease especially when I had forgotten my PIN number to pay. Even down to the detail of suggested presenting the bracelet in a necklace box and the way Pauline pinning it in really showed it at its best and was so thoughtful. During our time in store we chatted to Pauline about my husband gifting a tennis bracelet last year he’d purchased from Milton’s for my 50th too; and we’ve been customers for 30years. Pauline presented a complimentary bottle of champagne for being loyal returning customers over the years which was a lovely gesture too. I’m delighted to tell you that Mr Xxxxxxx was blown away by his 50th birthday present it really was a surprise, and he knew it from the Milton’s branding it’s a quality item. 12th March 2024, by email : “Chester Can Be a Very Dangerous Place. I set out to buy a book from Waterstones and this meant that the shortest route was past the window of Miltons jewellers. But that’s no problem because it’s not Christmas or a birthday, nowhere near our wedding anniversary and I’m not even window shopping. On the contrary, I’m in a desperate rush because I have a hectic schedule. There is no reason to even slow down, certainly nothing to stop for and absolutely no point in looking at a pair of tiny diamond and ruby earrings sitting quietly confident in the midst of acres of gold chains and diamonds the size of walnuts. But they are there – noble and self-reliant in the blizzard of wealth, glitz and glamour which surrounds them.  They have an honesty which comes from their intimate construction. They say, “If you judge quality by size then leave us alone.” In fact, they are just like my lovely wife – proud, independently minded, modest in her demeanour, powerful in her views. The earrings were made for her and she was made for them. And that’s why Chester can be a very dangerous place. The items were both high quality and the shopping experience overall was very relaxed and easy so we had a brief wander around Chester before popping back to buy the more expensive item. 30th April 2021 : Our colleague Sue at Miltons in Birkenhead received this kind card from a grateful customer whom she had helped pick a ring with which to propose. It can be one of the most wonderful but nerve-wracking experiences!

I hoped to locate a ring for my partner that was exceptional and Diamonds. The shop was very busy, only a couple and masked but I wanted to call whilst stood outside. The chap answered the phone, nice man and I explained I was OK outside but could they tell me the size of the ring I liked in the window. We are slowly returning from lockdown, so trying to get the balance of staff levels and safety is an on-going challenge for us, like most retailers. So glad the wait was worth it, at least ! ].

17th July 2020 : A client at Miltons in Birkenhead who had just bought a heavy gold chain said that he would have a cake made for our colleagues who had given him such “wonderful service.” We couldn’t have imagined that he would have been so thoughtful as to have this made — look at the detail on that “Miltons” ribbon! Nom-nom-nom……

I’d had it in pawn but couldn’t afford to get it out, but with the money I did have I bought some rings and managed to actually, thanks to the lovely lady, get another £700 paid off the ring. It was left to me by my nan; I started a business and put it in several times to help me out which it did, however I got sick and my business has halved since, so I just haven’t had the funds. The lady was shorter and had black hair, we were there about 12 yesterday; as I say, she treated me with grace and helped me out. I may as well have been buying a £60k ring as she was so good with me. I’ve only got £610 to pay now and she gave me another 3 months to do this so fingers tightly crossed I’ll have it back soon. A female member of your staff, kindly examined the ring for me, and at a glance, due to their being so professional, then told me that it was not hallmarked. Immediately a young man from behind the counter rushed out with a chair and we thought he was most kind and helpful. May 2015 : Miltons (Liverpool) Ltd in St.John’s Centre and S.S.Milton Ltd in Church Street, Liverpool receive outstanding results of 100% and 99% respectively in the Liverpool Business Improvement District 2015 mystery shopping exercise. This is the third time that the St.John’s store has earned 100%, having also won the ultimate “Store of the Year” award previously.

30th April 2015 : “Hi, I just wanted to write to say thank you for all of the help I received at the Milton’s shop in Church Street, Liverpool last Saturday (25th April) . . .

When I visited your shop, I immediately felt better, the staff were really lovely, especially Laura who was really informative, explaining the different cut, clarity and colour of the rings which explained why some were more expensive than others, even though they might have looked much the same. She was never pushy, advising us to go and check other shops to see if there was something we liked more. I explained that we were looking in the price range of about £2000.00 and Laura showed us a great selection of rings but the band of the ring I really liked – a pear shaped diamond – was very small so Laura got us a price to resize and recover with 18ct gold instead of the 14ct of the original band, the cost of which was £100 and which Laura then explained that Miltons would be happy to pay.

We did go and look at some other rings as Laura suggested (she put the ring and instructions for alterations to one side for us while we looked) but none of them came anywhere near the ring I had seen at Miltons and I also found the other shops (Goldsmiths, Beaverbrooks) quite soulless and didn’t like the idea of having a ring the same as lots of other people so I returned to Miltons to buy the gorgeous pear shaped diamond ring we’d looked at previously.

Laura was on her break but we were served by a lovely lady who’s name we didn’t get but she had worked there for 35 years and was also really friendly and informative, she even tried to rush the alterations along so that we could pick the ring up the same day! The icing on the cake was that as we were leaving, we were given a bottle of wine by the staff to celebrate our “re-engagement” which was a lovely touch and was a lovely end to a great shopping experience!

24th April 2015 (from a repeat pawnbroking client who had once again reclaimed his very expensive Rolex Submariner) : “I have my own business and it is great to know I can walk into Miltons at any time and within five minutes walk away with £10,000 to help my cash flow. If I went to my bank I would have to have an interview, then “be especially nice to the Bank Manager” [we paraphrase our customer’s less delicate description!]  They would charge a £300 admin fee and there would be over £1,000 in interest. With Miltons over 1 month it cost me about £450. I am really pleased with the service.”

Phil Ellison at Milton’s was excellent. I got to try on the watches I needed, there was ZERO pressure, ZERO salesmanship just friendly interesting Rolex chat… I even tried on a completely out of proportion overly heavy Seadweller… in fact Phil was so blummin’ helpful I even tried on his watch! Anyway it got to the point where I was down to two watches… I couldn’t make my mind up and Phil said to take my time there’s plenty of watches out there and what I want will crop up at some point… I couldn’t take that sort of heavy sales pressure so had to get out of there and grab a coffee and some fresh air. Anyway with caffeine came cojones and so I went back… And bought…. The big ugly Seadweller! I really liked the Explorer ii but when I tried the Seadweller on it Just Looked Right. It’s like a Sub, but more… betterer. I didn’t even think it looked totally stupid on my twiglet like wrists! Had it for a couple of weeks now and can’t stop looking at it I’ve also had it on a NATO which looked amazing. I would like to reiterate how fab Phil was at Milton’s. I also had “the opportunity” to experience their aftersales service. All I would say is absolute first class service from both Phil and Haywood who was superb to deal with. This might sound like a Milton’s advert and so be it. They were that good.”

What he does offer is personal honest service with full authenticity guaranteed for all pieces – all pieces are either mint, RSC serviced, or carefully repolished by their dedicates watch makers (who have been described as – as good as RSC polishers, finishers)…. I would not hesitate on calling him, or viewing his website when I am looking for my next Rolex – he has sold me a Rolex 16200 Datejust, 116234 Datejust and 16610 SS Submariner Date without issue or concern.”
